Financial Education & Field Trips

Partnering with Local Schools and Youth Groups

The ability to manage money wisely is one of the most powerful life skills we can give a young person — and one of the most overlooked.

Through our Financial Education program, we offer real-world environments and discussions where financial concepts come to life.

Real World Skills, Real World Impact

Budgeting, saving, making smart decisions with money — these aren't abstract ideas when you experience them in an age appropriate way. Educational experiences take place through field trips to Northwest Federal Credit Union, the distribution of financial literacy workbooks, and in‑school financial education presentations.

Building a Foundation for Lifelong Financial Confidence

Rooted in the credit union philosophy of people helping people, our financial education programs are designed to equip the next generation with the knowledge and confidence to make sound financial decisions for the rest of their lives.

Northwest Federal Credit Union Foundation has a rich history of partnering with local schools and youth groups to provide educational and career building experiences. These include a variety of field trips and other resources to local students including financial literacy workshops and field trips to Northwest.

Occasionally, with Northwest’s relationship with the Washington Commanders, we also have the opportunity to create meaningful, once-in-a-lifetime experiences for over 500 students across our communities. These have included a STEM learning experience with Bobby Wagner, a visit to 2025 training camp, Trick‑or‑Treat at Northwest Stadium, and Shop with a Pro event with Debo Samuels and Jeremy Reaves.

A highlight of this collaboration was the Commanders Read program with Dranesville Elementary School. Students heard directly from Commanders legends alongside Northwest CEO Jeff Bentley, reinforcing the importance of literacy and goal‑setting.

Motivated by these powerful messages, participating students went on to read an impressive 3,009 books—demonstrating the lasting impact of encouragement and access to positive role models.

Northwest Federal Credit Union graciously opened their doors to our MentorWorks program, hosting 80 fourth through sixth grade mentees for a field trip they will never forget. Our students, who all attend Title 1 schools, were given the opportunity to sit at the table in the Board Room for a high-power meeting with CEO, Jeff Bentley to learn about his journey to become a CEO of a large business. They were taken on a tour of the facility, were taught about the importance of saving and what it means to take out a loan. The NWFCU team, including their mascot, enthusiastically greeted our mentees with kindness, introducing them to the basics of financial literacy and demonstrating the importance of caring for one’s community. It was an incredible experience for our mentees and mentors!
